How it works

1

Contact

Reach out via email or twitter DM to discuss your needs, please include:

  • Link to your current docs
  • Tech stack (e.g. Docusaurus, Nextra, TailwindCSS)
  • If the docs are open source, a link to the repo
  • If you already have Code Hike v1 set up

We'll work together to schedule the project. I'll provide an estimated start date and timeline.

If needed, we can arrange a 15-minute call to clarify any questions.

2

Codebase analysis

I'll analyze your codebase to find any potential compatibility issues.
3

Payment

You pay $2,425 $970 via GitHub Sponsors.
4

Development

I'll rebuild the components from the What's included section tailored for your tech stack, design system, and codebase style.

For better accessibility of components like tooltips or tabs, I'll use third-party libraries like Radix, React Aria, or any other of your choice.

FAQs

Who is behind Docs Kit?

I'm Rodrigo Pombo, a.k.a. pomber, a software engineer with over 15 years of industry experience. My focus is on React, MDX, and designing UIs for technical content.

I've created several open-source tools, including Code Hike, which introduces a novel approach to combine the authoring experience of Markdown with the power of React.

Why hiring you instead of doing it ourselves?

It's totally possible to build these components in-house. In fact, the Code Hike docs have examples of how to build similar components from scratch.

But adapting and composing all the features can be time-consuming, with many details to get right. Depending on how much you value your time, a better option might be to pay me to build these components for you, since I've been building components like these for years.

Which front-end frameworks are supported?

The components depend on Code Hike, which requires React and MDX. This means frameworks like Next.js, Remix, and Docusaurus are supported. Libraries like next-mdx-remote, Nextra, mdx-bundler, and fumadocs are also supported.

Non-React frameworks aren't supported. Astro is not supported.

What if we can't give you access to our codebase?

If providing access to your codebase isn't possible, we can work using a sample repository that mirrors your tech stack.

Will you migrate our existing content to use the new components?

I won't migrate your existing content to use the new components, but I'll ensure they are designed for incremental adoption. This means you can integrate them into your documentation at your own pace, without disrupting your current workflow.

Can we modify the components after you deliver them?

Absolutely! Once the components are delivered, they become part of your codebase. You have full ownership and control over them. You can modify, extend, or adapt the components as needed.

Can we hire you for additional features?

Yes. If you need extra features or further customization beyond the initial scope, I'm available for hire as a freelancer.
